Book of Genesis¶

The beginning of the story¶

Of course, the Bible begins with the start of the universe, the Creation of the world, and Adam and Eve. How could we not start there?

Answer: you can if you want to. Genesis is an amazing book, very readable in fact compared to many of the other books of the Bible. Read it, it's great.

Genesis functions as the first Act to our grand drama. It sets the scene, and establishes some of the major themes. I intend to expand on this explanation as soon as possible, but after careful thought about what works best for beginners to the Bible, I have decided that it is not advisable to leap right in at Genesis and attempt to read from there.

That is why this reading guide begins instead in the middle of the story, with the books of Samuel and Kings.

To satisfy those who do prefer to begin at the beginning of time and read chronologically, I will be providing some general notes here to assist your journey. However, the main effort for adding content to this site will continue to be the read-through which commences with 1 Samuel. And I do recommend you look there!
